"Verbal information from the left ear which first go to the auditory cortex in the right hemisphere must be processed by the language areas of the left hemisphere"

The statement in bold doesn't make sense to me why would information from the left ear go to the auditory cortex in the right hemisphere then to the left hemisphere?
