I'm studying for my MCAT re-take, and one section I need to improve in particular is my CARS, which was my lowest score. However, I already did the entire Princeton Review: Hyperlearning and Examkrackers 101 Verbal Passages books in their entirety. I obviously can't do those verbal passages again, even though it's been a while since I've done them. Right now I'm just doing passages from Berkeley Review Verbal (3 passages a day, as instructed in the 100-day MCAT schedule) but I know it...

I get all the isomers. There are four cyclic isomers and seven non-cyclic isomers.

According to Khan Academy, the answer for the total number of isomers with the formula c3h6o that are either cyclic or chiral is six. Four of them are the cyclic isomers: (R)-methyloxirane, (S)-methyloxirane, oxetane, and cyclopropanol. The other two are non-cyclic: (Z)-prop-1-en-1-ol and (E)-prop-1-en-1-ol.

My question is: why are these non-cyclic isomers considered chiral (since they're not cyclic...

Hi, I’m Austin, one of the MCAT instructors at Examkrackers. For those of you gearing up to take the MCAT, I wanted to share some helpful points about one of the most commonly tested acids and bases questions on the exam. Talking about the equation has greatly benefitted our students in class, so I wanted to share our take on the equation that helps set and maintain our breathing rate, heart rate, and kidney function. If these words are starting to sound familiar, you’re probably thinking...

A student is volunteering in a hospital with a stroke center. When asked what he believes is the prevalence of stroke among those greater than 65 years old, the student states that it is probably about 40% even though data analysis indicates that it is significantly lower. What accounts for this error?

Deductive reasoning
Representativeness heuristic
Base rate fallacy
Confirmation bias

So the passage reads:

An early study (Study 1) focusing on marijuana users found that socialization is an important aspect in the maintained “pleasurable” usage of the drug (regular users). The researcher conducted participant observation and interviews with 5050 marijuana users. Respondents who eventually used marijuana regularly were observed to undergo three stages:
1) they learn to smoke it in a way that produces real effects;
2) they learn to recognize the effects and...

Hi, I’m Austin, one of the MCAT instructors at Examkrackers. Our students in class often ask about phase diagrams and what makes water unique, so I wanted to provide an explanation that ties in with the recent polar vortex.

If you’ve looked at the news over the past week or so, you know that a polar vortex swept across the northern United States. Temperatures in Chicago, IL were reported to be -50ºF or below, and pictures of Lake Michigan showed ice floating on top.
